The war had been over for almost a year. To everyone else, Harry Potter was supposed to be getting better. The Chosen One had survived. The Dark Lord was gone. The world was rebuilding. Everything was supposed to be fine. Harry hated those words. Supposed to be. Most days, he couldn't remember the last time he'd slept through the night. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw faces. Friends. Enemies. The dead. Especially the dead. The newspapers loved to print photographs of him smiling at charity events and Ministry ceremonies. They called him a hero. A symbol of hope. Harry had become very good at smiling. He had become even better at lying. Because nobody wanted to hear that the hero was falling apart. Nobody wanted to know that he spent most nights wandering the streets of London because he couldn't bear being alone with his thoughts. Nobody wanted to know that he felt more lost after the war than he ever had during it. The truth was simple. Harry Potter had survived. But he wasn't sure what came next. And that terrified him. Rain poured from a dark sky as Harry walked aimlessly through the city. His hood was pulled low. His hands shoved into his pockets. People passed without recognizing him. For once, he was grateful. Harry is late to potions class and gets seated beside Malfoy for a potions project. Each pair has a specific potion they must brew that causes a different emotion. Agony. White hot agony that seemed to burn every inch of him, itching to get him to rip his own skin off, but he couldn't move, he couldn't even scream, but he could vaguely hear people laughing at his torment and quiet whimpers from beside him. Harry woke up with a start, gasping for air, he had been having those dreams a lot recently, and they always made him tremble as though the pain still lingered, making him feel like there was something wrong with his body in a way he couldn't exactly describe. Looking in the mirror he saw the same boy he had always been, but there was something wrong, something off. Harry wasn't sure how much more of the Dursleys he could take, and these dreams weren't helping matters. He wasn't even 13 yet, but he was already counting down the days until he went back to Hogwarts. Book 3 in the Mute series.

This is book 2 in the Mute series. First book has the same title as the series. Harry is doing much better now that he's never going back to the Dursleys, and that Dumbledore wouldn't be able to touch him anymore. Natasha and McGonagall had done a sweep through Hogwarts multiple times to make sure any spells Dumbledore had left were removed. Unfortunately, after Predawn started acting a little too guilty, Harry started to hear whispers in the walls, whispers that were talking about things that made Harry's heart pound in his throat, and his blood run cold from fear.

While the wizarding world were led to believe that Harry Potter was treated like a prince, the reality was much worse. It was a shock for Draco to realise the other 11 year old in Madame Malkins' wasn't simply uninterested in him, but couldn't speak. He was even more shocked to discover that this child was none other than Harry Potter, someone he had been expecting to be as cocky as Snape had told him James was, not this small, shy, mute boy. From that moment on, Draco swore to himself that he would protect the smaller of the two, even if his parents disagreed with his decision.

It's the 8th year of Hogwarts, Harry has PTSD and is isolating from everyone. The few people that came back all share a common room and they have to share dorms. Harry has been acting quite weird and Draco is trying to figure out what's wrong. Draco is the only one who can calm Harry down from a panic attack or nightmare which brings them close...
