In Greek mythology, Cassandra of Troy was born with an extraordinary gift of foresight. The future called to her, but the present mistreated her. Her only flaw was that she could not control it. However, she had been subjected to another curse, one that appealed to both men and gods alike.
Cassandra was beautiful.
Some compared her to Aphrodite, while others simply desired her in envious silence. And then she was condemned. The day Apollo laid eyes on her, the ink had already dried on the paper. He craved her. She wanted to learn discipline. He taught it to her, and when the time came to make the transaction, she stepped back. A symbolic no that had cursed her.
No one would listen to her predictions anymore, no man would follow her wise advice, and all men would die.
Cassandra Hasen had never had time to ask her mother why she had chosen to name her that. As the years went by, she felt more and more that this name was disastrous for her. Despite the science, the knowledge she strove to acquire and develop, men seemed deaf to her.Or perhaps there had never been any curse. Perhaps the answer to her indignation was obvious, simple but painful. Her status as a woman limited her in the world of the Roaring Twenties. Her gender shaped her ambition without her having the right to say a word.
Cassandra Hasen only asked to be heard, because she was convinced of one thing. She was brilliant.
She just needed someone to notice.
