Sarcasm, a term which here means the use of irony to mock or convey a message, is a defining feature of The Umbrella Academy, shaping the dynamics and personalities of each of the Hargreeves. With their dysfunctional upbringing and superpowers, the superheros use sarcasm as a coping mechanism and a way to express their frustration, affection, and most importantly, rivalry. There was a certain air of rivalry between each member of the Academy, but they all dimmed in comparison to the competition Five and Y/N Hargreeves shared. From their upbringing all the way up to Five's disappearance, the constant bickering and struggle to outshine the other all led up to one moment. The Apocalypse.
