Jim had become Joyce's rock. Her safe place when shit hit the fan and she couldn't have loved the man any more than she already did. Jim was a beacon of light in her dark and miserable life. The one man who could see past her baggy clothes, second-hand books and the bruises she attempted to hide. Between secrets and unconditional love, they spend their childhood growing alongside one another living completely different lives. This is my telling of Joyce and Hopper's high school years and the events that lead up to the year 1983. The events from the show will still happen, but it will be very AU. Hopper gets stood up on his date, so you decide to make a move.

ONE SHOT: "Oh Hopper." She says as tears spring to her eyes. "I've missed you so much. I didn't think I would survive the pain most days...I- I thought I had killed you." Joyce begins to softly sob, so Hopper pulls her into his chest, their lack of clothing forgotten. "Hey, hey it's okay. It's all okay, because of you... you rescued me Joyce. And I'm not going anywhere. Never again."

Hopper and Joyce has been bestfriends since they were younger. They made a promise to each other when they were younger, they never forgot about it. Jim hopper has a sickness that could kill him, Joyce knows but how will it all end?

Joyce feels like she's losing everything she loves. Hopper is gone, she's moved far from the only true home she's ever had, and her son may even be moving away to college soon. As Hopper once said, "Nothing's gonna go back to the way that it was.". Joyce can't help but blame herself for some of the events that happened at Starcourt. She's bending too far.

This fanfiction follows the events of season 3 of Stranger Things, only some parameters were not taken into account, such as the disappearance of Jim Hopper. Autumn 1985, following the terrible events of the summer, everyone trying to get back to a more or less normal life... Trapped in her routine, Joyce Byers hadn't realized how much the tragedies of the last 3 years had changed her profound nature... and her view of the world. One night, a call from Sheriff Jim Hopper put her in the middle of a new story, in a world where she had yet to prove herself. Maybe that was all she needed...
