(NOTE: A work of fiction. Any relation to real stuff isn't intended.) Sarah Rowen, an excellent 8th grade trumpet player, moves to a small town in Florida from New York City. At the beginning of the day, she doesn't expect to make any good friends. By the end of the day, however, she's made two lasting ones. August Hendrix, a fellow trumpet player with the passion and playing ability of someone way beyond his years; and Medina Thornton, the son of the band director and a trombonist with the ability to make anyone feel like they belong. Of course, there's also Dawson, a wealthy brat with an unexplained vendetta against August but a new-found crush on Sarah (who, naturally, despises him). Later, she meets Maggie, a phenomenal chorus student, and Violet, a golden-hearted diva who may be able to reform Dawson. With these people, Sarah may (after 2 years of playing) finally experience a true band family.

The violinist teacher's pet (and son). The timid violist. The troublemaking cellist. And the bassist, determined to prover herself. How can four people so different become the closest friends? Well, dissonance can be harmony with a bit of tuning...
