Loved it! Your style is so lovely and dark at the same time. My favorite part was of the little minnows. It painted such an eerie vision. Enchanting. Well done! @Pixee_Styx I'd be lying if I say this book did not take my breath away. The writing is just elegantly morose and each paragraphs are punctuated with a poetic feel. It's beauty is almost dizzying. @fraulein_elle The Maggies is such a brilliant book that I went to the comment section to write something but I was so speechless after reading this that I couldn't find words. I haven't read such a good book for a long time! Thanks for writing this masterpiece. @MFOshin I read this and already kind of guessed what's happening but when I read the explanation. Oh. My. God. My heart died. And tears in my eyes. This is such a beautifully written short story that I can't fathom how such a story can hit your feels so hard. But this did. This is amazingly haunting and chilling and yet depressing and sad at the same time. I'm in love with everything about it. This is one of the most beautiful stories I've ever read. @KrystalM

In 1984, 6-year-old Alexander Sedona walks into an old-fashioned schoolhouse in the quaint rural town of Oaksbury, Pennsylvania, situated in the heart of the Old Amish Country. In one of the country's safest places, the small boy never leaves the old schoolhouse. An inexplicable phenomenon, his disappearance rocks the community to the core. Believing the boy's disappearance to be the result of witchcraft, devil worship, or even worse, the town of Oaksbury quickly deteriorates. Three decades pass, and as the memory of Alexander Sedona's disappearance fades, so does what is left of the once-beautiful town. Those who remain live simple, quiet lives. Little disturbs the peace until Rosalie Andrews, the former apprentice in charge of the children that haunted night, comes across a body. The corpse is that of a stunning young woman, lying beneath the azaleas that still bloom in the yard of the abandoned school house. A black cat anxiously circles her body, a mysterious note tucked in his collar. The young woman's body is pristine, except for one perplexing fact. The crime lab discovers she is covered in the blood of Alexander Sedona, the schoolboy who disappeared before she was even born. Determined to put a lifetime of guilt behind her and lay the ghosts of her childhood to rest, Rosalie makes it her mission to find justice for Alexander Sedona--and the angelic young woman who tells his secrets from beyond the grave. This is the story of Julian Douglas Voorhees, in his own voice, of how he came to be a passenger on an interplanetary space shuttle from Cape Canaveral, Florida to the planet Terra Nova, his trials and tribulations, and his eventual demise at the hands of the greatest silence of all - the expanse of space. The story is told in a non-linear style, following the disparate thoughts of Julian as he reminisces about the past. Status: On-Hold

{WATTY'S 2020 WINNER & EDITOR'S PICK.} Hopeless romantic and aspiring writer Mare Atwood has fallen madly in love with her childhood correspondent. There's only one catch-she doesn't know who he is. When the beaus of Star's Crossing return from boarding school to begin the courting season, Mare is determined to uncover the identity of her writer, flout her family's intentions of orchestrating an advantageous marriage, and procure the life of writing and romance she's always sought. But as in the tales she so adores, it won't be easy. Galas, masquerades, picnics, and hunts-alongside an old friend, a former teacher, and an unlikely ally, Mare delves into an investigation that leaves her torn between three clever, deceptive, and wealthy young bachelors. If Mare can confirm which is her writer and claim his hand before the courting season ends, she'll have her wish: the love of her life, a valuable marriage, and a future of writing romance. But with the eyes of Star's Crossing upon her, a business plot forcing invisible hands, and the unwillingness of her writer to come forward-Mare's future may not end in triumph, but tragedy. Set against the gilded Victorian backdrop of coastal Connecticut and lush with pre-war luxury, fans of Jane Austen, Margaret Mitchell, and Louisa May Alcott are sure to enjoy this lighthearted, lyrical novel of young love, independence, and identity. #1 Literary #1 YA Romance #1 Victorian #1 Lyrical #8 General Fiction

The house is safe. The hills outside are not. The basement is out of the question. Joel has been trapped in the house for what has felt like an eternity; all hope of escaping lost after the first few years. Without the company of the eight strangers who arrived with him, he would have gone mad long ago. But while living in the decrepit building is taxing, nothing could be worse than the thing downstairs. Everyone is content to just live in the six rooms that they know are safe until Joel learns that there may be something below. Something other than the creature that torments them. The house goes deeper, further down into the darkness. And while travelling through the unknown halls may be dangerous, and the thing downstairs is always following close behind, Joel is determined to find a way out of the nightmare he's found himself in; for his own sake, but more importantly, the sake of the people he loves.
