In the far north Max, Naneen, and Ollie travel with their reluctant allies, Thodin and Vulf to Scandia to meet with King Fingal of Olsk in the hopes of getting their help in finding the lost lands of the Shae. In Ibis, Jase, Heather, Kira, and Gillian join with Sister Eje and Lord Commander Havelock of the Raphealites in fleeing Romis a step ahead of Tabacci's vengeful forces, seeking safety by also traveling north. And in distant Arafel Lash and Garrett try to find new allies and make new friends following the failure of the paladin breakaway fleet to safely land on shore as they too try to discover their purpose even as both the Manadim and the Fire Lords close in on them.
