A failed suicide attempt leaves an overly introspective 19 year old girl with limited options. She finds herself "voluntarily" committed to a state run Mental Health Center. Unwilling to show vulnerability, this is the story of how she navigates through each day with faux positivity and an unlimited amount of metaphors.
"Like sand from the beach the hospital issued clothes clung to her skin and she could feel her sweat seep through the thin cloth. She thought about the embarrassing mark that would be left on the chair when she stood up which brought her attention to a small tear in the seat cushion. She began fingering the tear, trying to expose more of the soft fabric underneath its plastic cover. She imagined herself as being the couch cushion's savior, freeing the white cotton from its orange pleather nemesis. And for a short moment, despite the circumstances, this thought made her grin."
