When the queen of Mirkwood unexpectedly dies Thanduil is left without a wife, but more importantly his son is left without a mother. The king knows he cannot fill the ruins left by a dead mother so he appoints another woman to take her place, to look after his son when he cannot, and to give him the warmth he no longer feels himself. Inladris is a highborn elf who did not expect this responsibility to be thrust upon her, but she accepts it with aplomb and does her best to not only raise a prince but to give the king a friend she suspects he doesn't realize he needs. This is the story of their peculiar friendship through grief, and how two opposites may or may not successfully raise a child. *This is not a romance.

Legolas had just arrived back in Mirkwood, only to find out that he was to be wed. The elleth being (y/n) Aredhel, daughter to Lord and Lady Aredhel-two of the most strongest guards in Lothlórien ruled by Lord Celeborn and Lady Galadriel. They are soon sent off in a cabin in attempts to have them familiarize with each other. Being a king is hard. Raising a son is hard. Living with eternal grief is hard. King Thranduil is just trying to keep his kingdom running and his son safe when an elf is found with orcs at the border of Greenwood. Who could this mysterious elf truly be? But then the elf he rescued in the forest grows closer to Legolas, and Thranduil can not help but enjoy her company as well. Darkness descends over the forest, all because of this one elf. When lives are threatened, Thranduil must make a choice: his kingdom or his heart. 12/14/21- y'all I wrote this in high school and I kinda want to go through it again and do a bunch of editing. Some of my writing makes me cringe and what are we here for if not improvement. That being said, this story will change starting today probably and if you're in the middle of it, hopefully I don't confuse details or timelines for you. If you've already read it once and just felt like you had to read it again, maybe it will provide some new enjoyment. Who knows? Maybe I'll actually finish some other stuff I have on here.
