[Note: This story was previously known as 'We Are Young' and since then many things have changed. The first chapter is fairly similar in content, but the story following it is not.] Rian looks at me, the light of the fireworks dancing across his face and making his eyes glow. He smiles. "The way I see it is that, as far as we know, we only have one crack at life, and I don't want to regret anything. I want to make the best of the time I have, regardless of how long that that turns out to be." He turns back to the show. "I don't want have just had a life; I want to have lived it." The summer between her first and second years at university, Cynthia Stark, a shy and unmemorable girl, meets Rian O'Donnell, a lively Irish boy working in a florist. Having usually been the girl pushed into the background, Cynthia tells the story of how she becomes swept up in Rian's drug-like addiction to living. Each with their own battles, Rian and Cynthia teach each other the value of life and the people you meet along the way.

Meet Joe Nobody . . . and pray he never meets you. He's average height, with an average build, and average looks - an instantly forgettable face in the crowd. Joe also happens to be a hit man, quite possibly one of the best in the world. He's so good, in fact, that most of his work life has settled into a comfortable routine, where everything goes according to plan, and nothing at all is surprising anymore. He's been just about everywhere, and he's seen it all. But Joe hasn't seen everything. Not yet . . . **WARNING** - This work contains several curse words and some extremely violent themes and situations throughout. I mean, the main character is a hit man . . . there's your first sign. You've been warned. **ADDITIONAL WARNING** - This is soooooooo first-draft-ish, so any problems you see logistically, thematically, or grammatically are all the fault of a combination of absinthe and overzealous fingers. And please, for god's sake, if you see something glaringly wrong, tell me about it! :)

"That is all that is left of my humanity, Clara. An image with less substance than a ghost." He seemed to be genuinely upset. "What are you then?" "A Tsal." He said it bitterly, as if it were a painful memory that he'd rather forget. "A Tsal," he said again, "nothing more than a slave." Most people think that vampires are ruthless blood-sucking creatures. I thought so too, before I became one. Now I'm not so sure. Now, I'm starting to believe what they tell me about their purpose. This is my life, and First Death. Read on, and know that what I transcribe is the truth as it happened to me. My name was Clara. Now it is Klarae. Call me either one, I am beyond caring.

“A grizzled soldier at war with peace. A powerful wizard buried beneath the weight of failure. A street child with a knack for language, illusion, and mischief. A nobleman’s daughter unable to ignore the injustice all around. Two countries at war, twin sides of the same coin, each thirsting only for the taste of total victory. And between them all the magic, the runenotes, the spell song, the Great Song. The Longest Lament.”
