[Sequel to Sanctuary] Alastor (or rather, Father Bouchard) is caught between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, he has his calling in the church and his service to God. On the other, his love and irresistible desire for Angel. He knows he can't have both, but he finds himself struggling to let either one go. Angel, meanwhile, is still keeping a very big secret and letting Alastor 'believe the best of him.' He plans to share it eventually, of course, but it's just so nice to be seen as good for once. What he doesn't count on is Alastor finding out on his own. Or his reaction to learning the truth about Angel's history.

Angel has never felt like he belongs in church. Considering all the depraved shit he's had to do to take care of himself, he's not even sure he belongs in God's sight. That starts to change when he meets and befriends a priest named Alastor, who reminds him that every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future. No one else sees Angel the way Alastor sees him. He's never had anyone believe that he's capable of goodness and virtue. Still, he finds the experience so surprisingly comforting he can't seem to walk away from it. But developing feelings for a man who's sworn off romance in service to God would put Angel in a very complicated position. Especially if those feelings are reciprocated.

So, in spite of the laws that prohibit it, Angel decides to loosen up some of his programming to give him more free will. But an unshackled AI is seen as dangerous for a reason, and if Alastor's devotion to Angel should override his concern for human safety, Angel might have a bit of a problem on his hands. But at least his love life will be secure, right?

Human!Angel AU involving Hanahaki Disease, demon contracts, mob boss Angel, jealous Alastor, lots of flirting, and LOTS of pining. Rated 18+ for Chapter 9 onward. | Alastor is in love, and it's quite literally killing him. If he can't get the object of his affections--a frustrated young mafia prince named Angel--to love him back, he risks more than just a broken heart. But somehow, when he tries to confess, he ends up in a different sort of relationship than expected: a contract for Angel's soul. Well, six of one, half a dozen of the other, right? He can still make this work if he's careful about it. Surely he can fulfill his promise to make Angel into New York's most successful mafioso, protect him from his abusive father, keep him out of his manipulative ex's clutches, and win his love, all at once. That will be the easy part. Keeping his own feelings in check, however, might prove a little more challenging.
