La historia sigue a Lei, una adolescente de 15 años que, gracias a su vecina Beverly, se ve involucrada en los sucesos que persiguen al "club de los perdedores", así es como logra conocer y saber de Pennywise, una entidad cósmica que se alimenta del miedo de los habitantes. Al verse aterrada por el ambiente que sigue al pueblo y mientras más descubre qué es el payaso, comienza a cuestionarse si sus propias intenciones son diferentes o iguales al objetivo de los chicos. (Tiene romance, pero más que eso trata de indagar en los orígenes de Pennywise, descubrir qué es realmente su forma de vida y si existen otras entidades como él.)
