Sento Tomoki knew that his entire life and world is full of darkness and hatred. He learns of this when he gets suspended from his hometown highschool for injuring a government worker who was harassing his parents. He is forced to move from his hometown and he has to live in Shibuya with his uncle for his suspension. When he transferred to Shujin Academy, he met Ren Amamiya, who just like him was falsely accused for a crime he didn't commit, and was put on probation. When the two and a boy from Shujin accidentally stumble into a mysterious world thanks to a mysterious app called the Meta-Nav and they learn they can steal hearts of unruly adults and corrupt people as they don their masks to learn the truth of their world and stop the coming ruin.

The legend of the Phantom Thieves is nothing more than a passing memory to the masses as a year has passed since their debut. While most have forgotten, one boy hasn't. Y/N L/N is trapped, born into a crazed cult who believes the metaverse is the garden of Eden and the sanctuary for humanity come the world's end. Knowing nothing but his life born in the Metaverse, Y/N wishes to break free from his chains and live a normal life. Turning to the so-called heroes who saved the world, Y/N finds himself on a journey of self-discovery, freedom and friendship where not all is as it seems. Rumors of your appearance started to speculate as you only just 2 years ago started living in Japan after moving from your home country of the United States by yourself, being provided for a place to live in Yongen-Jaya, Shibuya. However in your 2 years of living in Japan, you were unable to attend any school due to a serious medical condition and have fallen behind your years as a second year student who had just turned 18. What would seem as a normal start, at a new school, and a new beginning, would only turn into a long, nightmareish adventure of self discovery, self doubt, and conflicting emotions.
