I realize he won't be able to pull the trigger if I don't say anything. But I'm mistaken, his smoldered face with resentment leaves and he plasters an anguished face on. No...I'm sorry I didn't mean that. If only I could tell him that. ''I can't kill you, Eleodore, please stop. Don't say things you don't mean," he says in a whisper, with his husky yet gentle voice. ''Why not?'' I demand, not understanding his sudden move of resistance, his gaze watching me up and down while he surrenders and withdraws his gun. He takes a step closer and I can feel his hot breath fanning down my face. I almost flinch, but as I close my eyes, I feel his soft lips plant on my forehead. And then he finally utters a single syllable. ''Because I love you.''
