The war is over, but peace has never come easy for Levi Ackerman.
Four years or so after the Rumbling, Levi lives in a crumbling home near the seaside in Marley, nursing wounds that will never fully heal. His body is a warzone - his leg ruined, his strength diminished, and his purpose long buried. A cane is his new sword, silence his shield. He doesn't believe in redemption, and he certainly isn't looking for hope.
But when Falco drags him to a makeshift physical therapy center, Levi meets a sharp-tongued nurse with a past as complicated as his own and a little girl who looks eerily familiar. Too familiar.
Levi wants nothing to do with either of them. At least, that's what he tells himself. But as tension turns to banter, banter turns to something deeper, and that little girl begins to call him family, Levi is forced to face a terrifying truth: he's not just healing from war - he's finally learning how to live.
But the biggest question of all..
Can he truly protect the child of his greatest enemy?
