The Fates hate him.
He is Percy Jackson, Twice Saviour of Olympus, Hero of Olympus, Defeater of Kronos, Slayer of Gaia and too many titles to list.
He gave his everything to the daughter of Athena. He plunged into Tartarus, held up the sky and refused godhood for her sake. He gave her his heart and would have exchanged his life for hers in a heartbeat.
Personal loyalty, his fatal flaw.
He should have known. Everything came full circle. First was Luke Castellan, who betrayed them to join Kronos in the Second Titan War. Luke's saving grace had been the fact that he had regained his senses and sacrificed his life to end the war he started.
Yet it was different this time.
Annabeth Chase had stepped on his feelings and spurned his devotion to her.
He was not stupid, no matter what she thought.
What was he to think when he found his girlfriend with the god of erotic love, affection and desire? He realised that she never had any feelings for him from the start. Their impassioned joining and the way Annabeth cried out Eros' name was sufficient proof that the one she loved was not him.
Even then, he would not have been upset.
It was fine even if it was not him.
He would have been satisfied as long as she was happy and stepped aside.
However, she told Eros something that Percy did not want to believe was true.
Annabeth had been using him.
That was the breaking point.
Something within the hero snapped.
Trouble was brewing and, this time, he refused to be the dog of the Olympians. He would fight for himself and those who never abandoned him in this time of need. Since when had he been loyal to the gods?
As the world falls into chaos and gods turn on each other, he will fight for himself and the future he envisions.
Perhaps, he will find that there was more to it than he had thought.
