Ilay's fingers dug into Taeui's arms, the pressure now verging on discomfort. Taeui inhaled sharply but didn't pull away. "Ilay," he continued softly, "there's a chance I may never present. I've already passed the usual age." He hesitated, the unspoken fear lodged in his chest Will you leave me?
Though the words remained unsaid, Ilay's expression shifted. Taeui wasn't sure if he was betraying his fear through his expression, but Ilay had always been able to read him with unnerving accuracy.
"Leave you?" Ilay's voice cracked, harsh, and incredulous. "You?" His grip faltered for a moment, his brows furrowed deeply.
