It had been six months since the Shelby boys and the soldiers of Small Heath had returned. In their return, Polly had gained her nephews but lost a dear friend. Rose had left the very day the boys had arrived home. She had a family of her own and brothers to welcome back after years at war. Rose left, as many a dutiful woman did, to tend to her family but she hadn't left forever.
