After getting the honour of killing a Nightmare, Hiccup leaves Berk with Toothless. It seems like he can't find peace as three years later the Hooligans find and capture him. Going back to Berk seems like a bad idea at the time, but Hiccup has to push aside all selfish reasons and help Berk. First book in a series of books. Hiccup leaves Berk when he is chosen to kill the Monstrous Nightmare. However after plenty of time has passed an unexpected turn of events forces him to confront his past head on.

Hiccup ran far away from his so called home. Berk, it still makes him angry yet sad at the same time. He left Berk behind when he was 15 and he had won Dragon training. His reasoning? well he had trained one of them. A dragon. Not just any dragon, a Night fury. The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. He had fled from Berk unnoticed until the next morning but he did not know if he was ever going back.

After the village has enough of his inventions malfunctioning, Hiccup is banished from his tribe. Now an Outcast, he goes to the one place where an Outcast can be who they are. There he finds things he never had on Berk; brotherhood, friends, respect and a place in a tribe. And when he tames the most vicious and ferocious dragon in the archipelago, then he'll lead his tribe and friends in glorious victory as they make their name known. The Dragon Raiders

He was getting powerful, violent urges, and his veins turned black, and started to show. In the arena, when he was supposed to kill the Monstrous Nightmare, something within Hiccup snapped. Something fell from the light...and something rose from the darkness... Filled with this new power, and rage, Hiccup mounted Toothless, letting out the wrath of a Night Fury and his rider.
