[ONC 2025 Shortlister] An apprentice silversmith, haunted by his reflection. A wealthy family, falling to ruin. A patron spirit, searching for a pact. Five games will decide their fate. After acquiring great wealth from a boom in silver trade, the Blackwood family moves into a mansion that was mysteriously abandoned by its previous owners. The property has everything a family of established silversmiths could need: prime trade location, a smithing workshop, and a large mirror that was left behind. To Kyren Blackwood, the promises of a new life and the riches that come with it are more than enough to overshadow the eerie tale. But the mirror watches. Reflections are not what they seem. Driven to the brink of insanity, Kyren must uncover the mirror's secrets before his family loses everything. In a desperate attempt to free himself, he agrees to play five games with the spectre in the mirror. If he can win three, the curse will end. Lose, and he surrenders his soul to the silver spirit. ~An ONC novella, inspired by prompts 13 and 55. ~Set in the same world as Buried in the Sea but can be read completely independently (with no spoilers to one or the other).

[CELEBRATE AFRICA AWARDS 2021 WINNER] 'The world has its Gods, and its Devils too . . .' The misfit. Denrele Ọrẹoluwa Balogun was set apart because he had the same red hair as those who have the ability to control fire. But while he lacked that ability, this didn't stop the society from treating him differently, until the day he set the world on fire . . . The assassin. Cass was only in The Damned Lands for one reason and there were supposed to be no detours. But what's a girl got to do when she met the intriguing Denrele and mistakenly killed hundreds of people? Definitely not kill more people, but that's what Cass-and Denrele-did anyway. Two connected people find themselves working together to save their lives and the lives of people they love, but the more they run, the more they seem to be entangled in a web of conspiracies from The Blessed Lands. However, sometimes, all you have to do is let the world burn.

Personalities clash, secrets come out, and bonds are made and broken as the summer continues. Even if this pair learns how to bend, will the world make space for it to happen? Prompt #52: Legend says only he who was fit to rule England could pull the sword from the stone. But the only one who manages to do so is a she. AUTHOR'S NOTE: I tweaked the prompt a teeny bit. I changed England to a fictional island called Moneres Islands and adjusted the setting from historical to present day (without the COVID vibes). According to ancient legend on the Moneres Islands, "He who is fit to rule could pull the sword from the stone." Is a short cute Korean girl from America fit to rule when she accidentally and drunkenly freed the decrepit blade in the dead of night? The answer is a resounding, "Oh hell no!" Except the people of the islands, including the current king, take the outdated myth very seriously and are set on crowning me - Winter Copeland, a 26-year-old photographer from Wisconsin - the queen in thirty days. While I'm safe from wearing clothes inspired by the Easter Bunny, I need to take crash course on how to behave like royalty. Apparently, queens don't joke about reverse harems, kick sleazy lawyers in the gonads, or prefer to hang out with dogs than converse with real people. With my best friend, Philomena, by my side, I'm ready to slay the etiquette classes and boring history lessons while evading my super serious and super hot personal bodyguard and the soon-to-be ousted prince with a perpetual frown on his handsome face. Some welcome the sudden royal change while others are determined to see me fail. Even I expect myself to fail on more than one occasion, but one thing I know for sure. Queens don't quit. They conquer.
