Simea Capri is a superstar. She released her first album when she was fifteen, and she has been on top of the tabloids ever since. After she released a Christmas hit at the beginning of November, the whole world expects her to finally reveal who her muse is -including her parents. Teani Mahoe has lived in New York for the past four years. At 23, she is the youngest captain of the US 7s rugby team and a model, advocating for women and queer rights, body positivity and the place of women in sports. But despite her popularity, she is alone for Christmas. So, when Simea asks her best friend to fake date just for the holidays, to satisfy the tabloids and her parents, Teani does not hesitate. She loves Simea, after all. What she did not expect was that she might actually love her a bit more than she had planned.

After a difficult divorce, Emma uproots her life in Pittsburgh and moves to New York City with her eight-year-old son, Joey. Leaving behind the familiar-her home, her support system, and every tradition she's ever known- Emma takes a leap of faith to pursue her dream job as an editor at a major publishing house. New York is overwhelming at first, butEmma is determined to rebuild a life that feels safe, hopeful, and full of possibility for both her and Joey. Their new apartment becomes the foundation for an unexpected community. Bowen, Emma quick-witted coworker, Chrissy and her son Jack, the ever-reliable Mrs. Murphy next door, and Harriet-the charming, warmhearted doctor across the hall-begin to weave themselves into Ellie and Joey's lives. As they settle into the city, Hattie becomes especially important: a constant presence who makes Joey laugh, supports Emma quietly, and brings a brightness neither of them knew they needed. By Thanksgiving, Emma decides to host a dinner to thank the people who have welcomed her and Joey so wholeheartedly. The evening is filled with warmth, laughter, and makeshift traditions-but once the guests leave, Joey opens up about how much he misses Pittsburgh: the house, the parades, the familiar holiday rituals. Emma is hit with guilt and worry, unsure how to ease his sadness. It's Hattie who gently reminds them that New York has its own magic. Together, the three of them begin imagining all the Christmas adventures the city offers-ice skating, holiday markets, the Rockefeller tree, window displays, and more. When Joey asks if they can do some of them, Ellie promises they'll do everything. The night ends with the three of them creating a Christmas bucket list, marking the beginning of new traditions, newfound hope, and the possibility of deeper connection.

After losing her job and her girlfriend, it's time for Annie Abraham to admit defeat and move back in with her parents. She has hardly been back to her tiny Montana hometown since the unforgettable summer before her senior year of college, when she agreed to babysit for Laurel Jacobs. Annie didn't expect to fall in love back then, and she never thought that after all this time she'd still be in love with the woman she walked away from when she was twenty-one. Laurel Jacobs has never gotten over Annie Abraham. It's been almost a decade since their fling and she can't move on. She has her kids to think about - at least, she tells herself that's why she hasn't been on a single date since Annie left. Her life was different back then: when they met, she was in the middle of a divorce with two young kids and no idea how the future looked. Now she owns a bookstore, her kids are growing up, and she's too busy for romance. Annie thought she would have more time to settle back into life in Deer Pines before being confronted by the love of her life, but she's not that lucky. After all this time, she's back for good and Laurel is the first person she sees, when she has just spent seventeen hours on a train and she's desperately in need of caffeine. It's the first time they've seen each other in eight years and it isn't long before all those old feelings come rushing back to the surface. They weren't buried as deep as they thought they were. A lot has changed since they last saw each other, more than either of them realize, but life hands out second chances for a reason. The first time they fell in love, the timing was wrong. Now's their chance to make it right. © Elle Carrigan 2023
