He's not sure how but Rengoku Kyojuro fell hard for the painfully oblivious and "emotionless" water pillar, Tomioka Giyu. Giyuu was sick not that any of the other pillars knew (or cared, so he thought). He was hit by a blood demon art in the final selection when he saw his best friend die right before his eyes, right when something inside him snapped and Giyuu lost the light in his eyes. Tomioka Giyuu is emotionally and physically scarred from his sister and best friends' death. He's very quiet and distances himself from others just so that he doesn't get attached and his bad luck spreads on to them. He has suicidal thoughts and uses unhealthy coping mechanisms to help with the pain and suffering. Through out the story, we learn more about Giyuu's past and why he is how he is in the present and we will also see how Giyuu overcomes his negative and suicidal thoughts and becomes happy once again.
