[Excerpt:] Jules towered over her, pressing her shoulder blades into the door. He pulled her face into his hands, cradling her chin, and forcing her to look up. Warm brown skin void of flaws, thick brows and eyelashes fringing his eyes; she stared at that unreasonable perfection, but said nothing. "Sev," he coaxed gently, and her resistance slightly waned in his grip. "Talk to me. Tell me what you wanted to say before you came in here. Tell me why you don't believe him. Tell me anything." It was like pounding against steel, and the seams were welded shut. It could have been his mind conjuring up its own images, but he saw a glimpse of something in her expression; a desire to let her guard down that she quickly buried back under layers of armor. "I have to go," she winced, her voice unsteady. He held on to her for a moment longer, and then stepped back to let her leave.
