1940s, United States. In a prestigious town built on appearances and status, Lena has always been invisible: poor, frail, and a constant target of Harry and his wealthy friends' cruel jokes back in their school days. Years later, fate weaves their paths together in a way neither of them could have predicted.
Harry returns from World War II missing part of his leg and the life he once knew. Abandoned by his gold-digging wife and pushing his family away, he finds himself alone, bitter, and broken. In an attempt to help him, his family hires a young nurse who desperately needs the money: Lena.
She recognizes him instantly, but he has no idea who she is. Lena chooses to remain silent about their past, determined to do her job with professionalism.
But as the days go by, she begins to see the man behind the arrogance: wounded, lonely, and carrying scars that go far beyond the physical. And Harry, in turn, starts to see an unexpected light in Lena as they pretend to be in a relationship to save his reputation.
Caught between the weight of the past, family secrets, and feelings that insist on growing where there was once only pain, Lena must decide if she can love the very man who used to be her greatest torment. And Harry must choose whether he's willing to let go of the principles he once held so tightly.
