CURRENTLY UNDERGOING MAJOR EDITING REVISED CHAPTERS: 2 "human relationships." he explained, a small chuckle leaving his throat, "i don't care about people's hearts. i don't want to know how people work or how they think. they're all selfish anyways." you didn't interrupt him, despite how you wanted to disagree. people weren't selfish, at least not everyone. and like chishiya had told you before, wasn't being selfish sometimes a good thing? shouldn't you be allowed to want certain things for yourself? once more your thoughts paused and the feather light touch of a hand against yours could be felt, not quite finding purchase but enough for you to feel that he was there. or maybe it was meant to reassure himself. his throat moved, perhaps his attempt to clear the tightness and arrange the words evidently playing on the tip of his tongue. "but then i met you. and it was weird. i had never been so interested in a human being before. and through time i found that..." he paused, glancing up for a brief moment before holding your fingers more securely, "you're the only heart i want to learn more about."

"why do you play?" he asked one evening, finding you had been practicing alone while the other residents were outside in the pool. his finger had tapped on the page you were fixated on, allowing you to glance up and meet his gaze as well as read the lips that spoke of syllables deaf to your ears. you peered at him curiously, and for a moment chishiya thought that maybe he had spoken too quick for you to comprehend. but before he could fix his mistake you were fixing your bench and tapping on the keys, a melody entrancing his ears. many emotions hit him at once, leaving him in a daze and struggling to grasp onto them all. but he listened, he put his full attention to the sounds you played trying to give him what he wanted. it was giving him a sense of...clarity was it? is this what the music you had no ability to understand leaving you with? why? it left him frustrated, for he was not happy with the outcome of his curiosity. how were you able to find such solitude in the very thing you lacked? what did that leave him with? eventually the sounds ceased, until you stilled your hands and dropped them to lay in your lap. you peered up at him, awaiting his reaction and chishiya could only provide you with a fake enough smile to label him a phony, "how peculiar."

"do you...." you paused, clearing your throat before continuing, "do you think hanahaki will ever go away?" he turned his head, studying you once more, before shifting his body to fully face you, "why are you asking me?" "you're a doctor. i thought you'd know." a beat of silence followed, and he titled his head before replying to your question, "at the rate things are....no. it will not go away." you didn't know what to feel by his answer. should you have felt upset, knowing more people would experience the same thing you currently were? or perhaps relieved, to know you wouldn't be the only one so unfortunate. "do you believe that to be a bad thing?" you asked, for you couldn't place the jumble of emotions coursing through your body. he shrugged, "i don't care for love." "and yet you treat it." a smile twitched his lips, appearing amused by your words, "i do." "why nurture something you care nothing for?" "you have a lot of questions." "does that bother you?" he didn't answer right away, seemingly trying to decide if you were worth the time to think. finally, after several seconds you spent in anticipation, he allowed words to slip through his lips, "i suppose im looking for something. a reason why so many patients decide to choose love over life."
