19 year old Union soldier Thomas has been wandering the battlegrounds of Gettysburg for centuries. He died in battle. He was content with his lonely life, looking for the Confederate soldier, Olivander Vexly, who killed him. Everything changes though when he meets a beautiful psychic, Chansey, who no one understands. Chansey has seen many spirits, but she has never seen one quite as handsome and charismatic as Thomas. Curiosity soon turns to love, but will secrets hundreds of years old threaten to tear them apart forever? How can they love when one of them is dead?

I wrote this short story inspired by controversy surrounding a Civil War memorial at my university. I wrote this hoping to inspire a sense of connection, understanding, and empathy. I also wanted to emphasize a common theme found in war - that often "it's a rich man's war, but a poor man's fight" and how often soldiers who fight and lay down their lives at war do not necessarily share the same principles or politics as those in power who start these wars. Of course, I also added fantasy elements too inspired by an SCP entry and wanted to create a broader narrative. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. Please, feel free to tell me what you think!

The ghost of Christmas past may be the perfect nudge into the future… Lillian Langston is almost ready to throw in the towel when her husband, U.S. Marshal David Langston, rides out after the deadly Foster Gang mere days before Christmas. A former soldier and renowned lawman, Davy has not adjusted well to married life. Instead he is rarely home, and all too frequently he slips into the overbearing, overprotective tendencies that almost prevented her from marrying him in the first place. Hoping to rekindle the passions that had drawn them together, Lilly had planned the perfect Christmas. Now it seemed Christmas would be yet another night spent at home… alone. When word reaches Lilly that Davy had been ambushed and killed by the murderous Foster Gang she is completely devastated. However, when a mysterious visitor gives her reason to hope for the impossible, she takes charge of her own destiny and embarks on an adventure that will take her on a journey of faith and Christmas hope. Will Lilly save her husband, salvage her ailing marriage, and maybe… just maybe learn what truly makes a perfect Christmas? Or will sinister outlaws cut short her happiness before it ever has the chance to begin?

Many ghost towns scatter the Midwest, from Arizona to California the forlorn towns call to curiosity seekers, history buffs, and ghost hunters alike. Some abandoned for no reason at all while others fell to economic or natural disasters. But what happens when the town's were abandoned because they were actually haunted? Honestly I think this story is evolving into a western, and I'm not sure how to feel about it.
