Elves are pariahs in the city of Mornholde, judged by the humans as less than them and treated as slaves. Humans hate the elves, and the elves hate the humans. But when monstrous creatures called the Vulgan start to possess humans and use their life-essences as tools for their weapons, it seems all is lost. Until one girl, considered too lowly to be a slave, a half-elf, half-human, rises up from the ashes of the brutality and wrongness of life in Mornholde, and gets together an army. An army to defeat the Vulgan, an army to change Mornholde forever.

A strange force has swept over the Fae Courts. And because of it, ancient seals that have been placed throughout the Courts in order to seal away those who would do the Courts harm, are becoming broken. Now, not only do the people of the Courts need to worry about what effects the strange force, called the Withering, but also those who were imprisoned are now free, and so they are wreaking havoc. When a sorceress called Astrid Magebane is freed by her lover, Dahlia, they seek to kill those who hurt them. One of them happens to be David Locke, an angel, who is a Duke of the Wind and Soul Court. And so, upon hearing that Astrid is free and Dahlia is alive, he begins to do dark magick to create an army to finally kill them. But in the process, David is further corrupted, and his adoptive children all watch as their father is taken over by the being that created the Withering. In order to save their father, and save the world they live in, his children make an army of their own from each of the Courts. But can they save the world from the Withering? Or will their combined powers not be enough?
