That's the thing. Hongjoong really was immortal. When Seonghwa investigates, Hongjoong's Soul File tells something much more disturbing. Hongjoong? Immortal and stuck to be tortured and experimented on by scientists who are trying to obtain immortality for themselves? He's been picked apart by them since he was eight years old? That violated many concrete rules of being a mortal. Plus, the level of offense and illegality... It was sickening. Seonghwa imagined the pain he had felt, and he knew he had to bring the scientists down to Hell. It was odd enough that the Demon King was so focused on one particular being, but something about Hongjoong pushed Seonghwa to want to help him.
