He is just happy to make a friend, to finally be able to share his past with someone, until he slowly realizes his feelings are growing into much more than friendship. Often away from loved ones for extended amounts of times, dropped in the middle of nowhere, with intelligence that could crumble life and society as we know it today or could launch another world war with only your closest battle buddies being there to support you; sometimes it was someone you had only known for six months being on your six and trusting they were going to get you out alive. Being killed or captured was always a threat and work was never easy. Missions often went sideways, and you sometimes only had the supplies in your bag with the clothes on your back. The two had a very soft love, one that wasn't harsh and loud. It was refreshing to see something so innocent in the chaos that was their day to day life. Nobody commented on their relationship, but they all enjoyed seeing the two act like lovestruck teenagers. The softness was a wonderful contrast to their jagged job. Ghost was always cold and distant to those around him, never fully opening up. Soap was someone that struck a distant memory in the British male. Ghost not fully understanding how Soap was achieving this locked away emotion. Not wanting to open up after what happened the last time. With miscommunications and mixed signals, it almost seems hopeless for the two. It only led to the worst mission that Ghost could face. One where it would prove if the other has grown soft or keep on a straight face.

Simon was an unstoppable force, but Fate was an immovable object. Stationary. When you ignore it, and put up walls to secure yourself, it only delays the inevitable. Unavailing. It doesn't stop it. Moments in time slowly drill their way through, picking an open scab until it turns to scar tissue. It will break your skin until it drains you. You will deteriorate into ashes, scattered by the wind. And if you force yourself against Fate, shielded with a lifetime of trauma that you use to protect yourself- you're forced to recognize why you put the walls up in the first place. Every moment full of agony, abuse, anguish. Your walls will crumble, because Fate never fails. And as Fate tore the first wall apart, Simon was pushed.
