I was 14 when I discovered my mother harbored feelings for another man. It was a man I didn't know, except in pictures. Then I learned that he was no longer alive. How could she harbor feelings for the dead? I would ask. I was so in the dark. I figured earlier on that he was related to me. I took over his features and maybe a bit of his mannerism, like the hot, scorching rage that I kept pent up or the strong will I had towards achieving anything I considered a goal. She never said it to my face, but I could tell that she hid a lot from me, and it wasn't about trying to protect me. No, it was about trying to protect the person who hurt me. the person who hurt us, repeatedly. First it was my real father, then it was my neighbor. She blamed all the non-action and secrecy on us being weak and poor and without support. Until I was fourteen, my favorite color was yellow, the color of the sun. I had high hopes for our large family. I was naive. I believed the world was all sunshine and roses and that one day, the sunshine would get to me. It wasn't until later on, when those secrets began unveiling themselves, that I saw it for what it truly was. Then, I saw only red. "CRIMSON MISTS" is a novel that tells the story of two teenage girls through a rusty lens. It highlights the importance of a nurturing family in a girl's life while also detailing its disadvantage. It was written as if the writer was deliberately contentious-" Nikkyal01 "The story is incredibly engaging and engrossing, and I was invested from the very first page. The characters feel real and complex, and the plot will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's an all-around excellent story that will leave a lasting impression on anyone who reads it." - LMNTrix117 CRIMSON MISTS #Adult-fiction ~Formerly known as Of Ivory and Pachyderma~ ~ Achievements. 🥇1st in #gatekeeper 28/10/23🏆 🏅5th in #accusations 28/10/23🏆 🏅7th in #vitiligo 28/10/23🏆 🏅10th in #scholarship 16/11/23.

Great Expectations charts the progress of Pip from childhood through often painful experiences to adulthood, as he moves from the Kent marshes to busy, commercial London, encountering a variety of extraordinary characters ranging from Magwitch, the escaped convict, to Miss Havisham, locked up with her unhappy past and living with her ward, the arrogant, beautiful Estella. Pip must discover his true self, and his own set of values and priorities. Whether such values allow one to prosper in the complex world of early Victorian England is the major question posed by Great Expectations, one of Dickens's most fascinating, and disturbing, novels.

Emma from Jane Austen. Emma Woodhouse is one of Austen's most captivating and vivid characters. Beautiful, spoilt, vain and irrepressibly witty, Emma organizes the lives of the inhabitants of her sleepy little village and plays matchmaker with devastating effect. #HessasBookshelf
