Arthur and Morgana overhear Merlin's conversation with his mother, and after magic is used in the fight, they both realize that Merlin is a sorcerer. Despite not really wanting to, Arthur decides that Merlin should stay in Ealdor. Now it's Morgana's job to kick Arthur back to Ealdor to get their friend back. But that is not the only reason Arthur wants Merlin to stay with him. Set in the episode 1x10 The Moment of Truth.

{ Discontinued! } Morgana has just found out about her magic, overwhelmed with fear of what will happen to her if Uther finds out, she confesses the truth to Gaius, unaware that a certain Warlock is listening through the door. Merlin finds out that he is not alone in Camelot, someone shares his secret and he is determined to find out who. When he overhears a conversation through his bedroom door, he immediately tries to help the Witch in need. Will a new bond between the Witch and Warlock be discovered, or will their secret be revealed when a certain Prince starts to debunk the reason behind his manservant and half-sister's new relationship.

I want to make several assumptions or changes before I begin this story: *One is that Uther Pendragon was once friends with Balinor, the Dragonlord. *Another is that Hunith is Gaius's younger sister and that she too once worked in the castle, but as a servant. *A third is that Uther was actually rather found of magic before Igraine's death and the Purge. *The death taken in exchange for another does not have to be instantaneous if the circumstances call for it. In this story Igraine doesn't die. Instead another's life is taken. Merlin's magic is common knowledge and Uther is actually quite fond of him, perhaps a bit overprotective due to circumstances that you will come to learn. I, of course, own nothing of the characters or setting. That belongs to BBC who really should continue the series. The prologue of this story is going to be very brief set up for the series, which will take place when the boys are older. So don't mind it too much if its quick and bit messy. It's only meant to be a background.

Merlin wished for nothing more than his bed as he finally left the banquet hall. He had spent the entirety of the day as Arthur's punching bag or running around delivering remedies from Gaius. Then, of course, there was the banquet itself and Merlin would have been fine if he hadn't been asked to stay behind and help clean up. Now, he was simply exhausted. He made his way across the courtyard and yawned when he suddenly saw one of the statues on the balcony lean over. The stone cracked and broke, toppling over the edge. He looked down, spotting the son of a nobleman sitting on the steps. The boy was maybe 11 years old. He didn't see the statue. He sat there throwing pebbles at a larger rock, unaware of the block of stone above him.

In a world where Uther Pendragon isn't completely oblivious, he begins to notice some of the strange occurrences around his son Arthur. To Uther's horror he starts to believe that due to the not-so-natural circumstances of his birth, Arthur Pendragon might have magic. Once Arthur finds out about his father suspicion, he confides in his manservant Merlin, who is now freaking out about someone finding out that he is the one with magic and not Arthur. It doesn't take long before Morgana hears of the speculations and stands up for Arthur by outing her own magical abilites. So what is Uther supposed to do now, when both his children supposedly possess the very thing he hates and has killed so many people for?

"In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young man... his name, Merlin" This show may have ended a long time ago but the memories and heartache it caused, have not. I hope to give you joy and relief rather than pain (I think we've all had enough of that after the last episode) with my imagination.
