BROKEN By Gideon Livingston Before he became a man, Kojo was just a boy trying to understand the world around him. Growing up in a small Ghanaian community, Kojo learns about life through ordinary things: school, family, friendships, football, laughter, fear, and the strange rules adults seem to live by. But behind the ordinary moments is a home that is slowly falling apart. After one night changes everything, Kojo, his mother, and his younger brother leave their home before dawn and return to Apagya, the place his mother once called home. For Kojo, it feels like a new beginning. He is enrolled at Apagya R/C, meets unfamiliar faces, and begins adjusting to a life that is different from the one he knew in the city. But leaving a broken home does not mean leaving everything that broke you behind. As Kojo grows, he begins to discover that family can be complicated, childhood can be unforgiving, and the people who are supposed to protect you can sometimes be the very people you fear. Told through Kojo's memories of the boy he once was, BROKEN follows his journey from childhood into manhood - through the moments that made him laugh, the moments he did not understand until years later, and the moments that changed him forever. Because sometimes, you don't realize something is broken until you are old enough to look back and see all the pieces.
