Shirley Davis moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma from Denver, Colorado to get away from the busy uptown life. She moved on to the Eastern side of town where the Greasers ruled since she couldn't afford to live on the West side. There, she met Sodapop Curtis at the gas station he worked at. He was the most attractive man Shirley had ever seen. When she also becomes friends with a sweet Johnny Cade, she realizes how small her new town is as she constantly runs into who everyones calls 'the sweetheart Greaser'.

Emily Mathews is a 15 years old high school Sophomore in a terrible school filled with jerks, bullies and Socs. She's a Greaser, just like her brother Two-Bit and his friends. She's not very popular and spends all of her time with Two's gang, including her best friend and crush Sodapop Curtis. Emily is already depressed, but when she gets the shock of her life from Soda, things go even more downhill.
