Aurora gripped his hand, the leather of her glove a cold, cruel wall between her desperation and his warmth. Tears tracked through the dust on her cheeks, hot and silent. To her, he was everything; to him, she was the only thing that was real.
Hitoshi didn't pull away. He scoffed, his gaze drifting toward the horizon as his Adam's apple bobbed with a jagged, suppressed sob. He looked like a man watching his only source of light slip away.
"Some things are deeper than skin, my Asahi," he whispered, his voice finally fracturing. "I love you. And I don't care if you can't feel it. I'd spend my life in the shadows just to stay in your orbit."
