Adrien is a young merman who loves to explore and humans fascinate him, his father how ever forbids him from going any where near humans but he disobeys and goes to the surface to watch them anyway. While watching the humans one day he falls for one of the girls problem is he's a merman and she's a human so all he can do is watch from a distance until one day he and his father have a fight as his father is abusive towards him and reveals that he has a mate all lined up for him. After growing tired of his father's abusive behavior towards him and his refusal to let him choose his own mate he flees taking a box with him that contains water miraculous which grant the user the ability to breath under the water by turning them either into a mermaid or a merman. After getting himself caught in a wave and landing up on the beach Adrien discovers he has a human side which he gets from his mother who is still alive and lives on land. Bella finds him and takes him in giving him the life he has always wanted this however does not sit well with his father who is determined to find him and get him home before the next mating season starts.
