"A life full of material worth can never fulfill someone like love and happiness can."

They say summer brings out the best in people, but I'm not sure that was ever true for us. For kids like Clay and me, raised in convertibles, spoiled by sunshine, and used to houses with names instead of addresses. Summer was just another excuse to pretend we had it all figured out.
Growing up the way we did, everything looked perfect from the outside. The houses were big enough to echo, the cars were polished like mirrors, and the glasses were never empty.
We were drinking champagne we weren't supposed to and falling in and out of love like it was a game. Nothing ever felt permanent. Nothing ever had to be.
And then Clay Beresford looked at me like I was the only real thing in a world full of fakes. Everything I thought I knew started to feel different.
We weren't chasing love. We were killing time.
And somehow, love found us anyway.
