Zamatungwa Qhawekazi Mkhize never believed in fairytales.
Raised in rural Nongoma by a single mother, she learned early that life offers little softness-only survival. While others dreamed of love and perfect endings, Zamatungwa learned to carry burdens far too heavy for her age. Her mother worked in silence, stitching torn school shoes, feeding three children from almost nothing, and never allowing the world to see her break.
When Zamatungwa earns a bursary to university, hope finally feels real. But in her third year, just one step away from her degree, her world collapses her mother is gone. Suddenly, she is no longer a student chasing a future, but the only parent her siblings have left.
She returns home, sacrificing her dreams to carry responsibilities that were never meant to be hers. Working under a harsh boss and surviving a life that feels heavier each day, she learns to endure in silence, holding onto dignity where there is little kindness.
Until Mpendulo enters her life.
He does not try to save her. He sees her. Slowly, he notices the strength in her silence and the mind she hides beneath her pain, and becomes the one person who stands beside her through the weight she carries.
But love is not easy for Zamatungwa. It comes with distance, mistakes, and the slow rebuilding of trust.
And for her, the hardest question is not survival...
But whether she is allowed to be loved at all yet Mpendulo shows her that she deserves it and more.
