For Luc, life began seven years ago. It began on a bus, by the hills, beneath a black sky, with no one at his side but his sister, Cora. His world is mundane, routine, and perfectly adequate. At work, he teaches, and at home, he takes care of Cora, who has spent the last four years in perpetual lethargy, from no apparent cause. And at night, sometimes, Luc sleepwalks. He finds himself inextricably drawn to the green hills by his home, guarded by strange trees, where a bench waits and a mysterious man wanders. And, if he can believe it, a door opens into a hill. Summer is always a dream, but this summer, Cora's disappearance is anything but. With half of his world gone, Luc begins a search that plunges him down into a land beyond the hills, where time is infinite, trees are immortal, and a neverending cycle seeks a sacrifice Luc may not be willing to give.

Asellan of Cyne was given life twice, and neither time by choice. Being a prince has its perks, at least until faced with the punishment of being in the public eye, and at the point of the public knife. Lamentably still alive after his ninth birthday, Asellan finds himself in high demand as desirably mutilated, and capable of curing all physical ills. Except, of course, his own. Far from the comforts of the palace, or a warm bed, the squalid streets of Syshla are filled with the issue of those who perpetuate the cycle of misery built into the city. Riam Ecorai joins the ranks of children no better than mice. Sure, she can't read, write, or run from a fight, but a girl can dream, and Riam knows exactly what she dreams of: the coveted crown of Coéndoré. Kings and queens usually don't find themselves in the corners of crumbling hospitals, but a certain prince does. With their records of misfortune, a meeting must have been devised by the gods, ever-seeking to satisfy their insatiable schadenfreude. And so, joined by a former navigator who can hardly point himself on the right path, Asellan and Riam make their way through the country condemned to inevitable oblivion, searching for some semblance of sense in the suffering and, as always, a peaceful night's sleep. A honking big collection of poems, short stories, photographs, drawings, and musings all by this humble Jester. {NOTICE:} Almost everything in this book is based on true events. Some details, such as names, have been altered for the privacy of the individuals involved. It has not been flagged as Mature, but there are some instances of strong language or depictions of situations that may be frightening. Let it be known that Jester will not be censoring its own life just to fit anybody's narrative. Thank you. Also, if you know Jester outside of Wattpad, you're better off not reading this hahahaha.

The house is safe. The hills outside are not. The basement is out of the question. Joel has been trapped in the house for what has felt like an eternity; all hope of escaping lost after the first few years. Without the company of the eight strangers who arrived with him, he would have gone mad long ago. But while living in the decrepit building is taxing, nothing could be worse than the thing downstairs. Everyone is content to just live in the six rooms that they know are safe until Joel learns that there may be something below. Something other than the creature that torments them. The house goes deeper, further down into the darkness. And while travelling through the unknown halls may be dangerous, and the thing downstairs is always following close behind, Joel is determined to find a way out of the nightmare he's found himself in; for his own sake, but more importantly, the sake of the people he loves. A race of human beings with horrific ancestry, an Empire's conquest of a faraway island, a man's search for divinity. Here lies Gehenna, here lie the damned. ***This novel contains mentions of violence, murder, rape & suicide -- Reader Discretion Advised*** Author's Note: Growing up with shows like Supernatural and Black Butler, reading novels like Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth, and most importantly reading the Bible the full way through, I've gotten extremely fascinated by the esoteric aspects of Christian mythology and Biblical lore. This story is inspired heavily by such Christian motifs and symbolism, specifically the Nephilim and the Book of Enoch. The setting of the story, rather than being the modern world, is instead the Age of Discovery. The reason being that, this era - the early 16th century, was a tumultous period when Christianity was spread via the early colonial Empires, and much of it involved horrific tales of the Inquisition and subjugation of conquered peoples. What better a place, then, for a novel inspired by Christian mythology than such a period? ----------------------------------------------------------- Highest Tag Rankings: 1st in #thought-provoking --- November 22nd, 2022 2nd in #cosmichorror --- September 30th, 2022 3rd in #lovecraftian --- September 8th, 2022 3rd in #biblical --- January 19th, 2023
