You just found out my secret," he whispered. "Now I can't let you go."
His breath was on my neck. My entire body lit up.
"I have to punish you."
I should've been terrified.
I kind of was.
But I also wasn't.
My mind was screaming "run", but my body felt like it was melting.
"What are you gonna do?" I whispered.
He leaned in, brushed his nose against my neck. Goosebumps.
"I'm dangerous, Odessa. You might not survive me."
Odessa has spent her entire life trapped inside the cold, unforgiving walls of an orphanage run by cruel reverend sisters. Women who masked their fanaticism behind rosaries and rigid scriptures. There was no warmth, no love. Only silence, punishment and prayers that felt more like curses.
After another brutal episode of abuse by these cold wretched sisters, Odessa escapes into the night, barefoot and broken, rain soaking through her thin clothes, cold and hungry. She collapses on the street half conscious and near death. That's when he finds her-Leon Prescott. The enigmatic billionaire, polished, powerful, charismatic. He takes her in and nurses her back to health and for the first time, Odessa dares to believe she might be safe or maybe even loved.
But the fairytale shatters quickly. Control, manipulation, sharp words, abuse and bruised skin. Gaslighted and isolated, Odessa finds herself caged once again, only now the prison has golden walls. Part of her was told that she deserves this and didn't deserve any love and the love she barely now got from Leon, was enough.
Then comes Dante Voss. A mafia king cloaked in danger and silk. Who saves her from the wrath of Leon Prescott. With eyes like shadow and a voice like a promise, Dante offers her something she never truly had: a choice. But trusting a man like Dante might be trading one devil for another. A good devil?
Now Odessa stands torn between the man who broke her and the one who might burn the world down just for her.
