The most important news story of her life will eventually lead her to the biggest secret about the intelligence agency. A series of portals capture the attention of the reassembled Avengers when nightmare creatures erupt from them, snatch people and return to whatever planet, dimension or universe they come from. The mission goes sideways when Bucky becomes injured and trapped in the Void, the nightmare environment behind the portals. He is rescued by Molly, a woman who has been in the Void for fourteen years, the last three with the child, an autistic boy named Nate. Until the Avengers can figure out how to handle the alien environment in the Void, Bucky vows to keep the other two safe until they can all be rescued. He discovers how precarious Molly's health is from her long captivity, resulting in a growing emotional connection with her. With their rescue the two begin a relationship that signals something new for both of them, something wonderful but fragile.
