As the face of the band Tokio Hotel, Bill Kaulitz was loved, smiled at, admired and hated like no other for his eccentric appearance. Fans adored his androgynous style, the press reacted with perplexity and speculation about his sexual identity. When the hype about himself took on dangerous proportions, Bill fled with his twin brother Tom to Los Angeles, from where he looks back on the first thirty years of his life. Growing up near Magdeburg, Bill was used to hostility and incomprehension, but never let himself be deterred and consistently pursued his artistic visions and his dream of a life away from provincial confinement. For the first time, he talks openly about his childhood in the middle of nowhere, Tokio Hotel's overwhelming success, but also about escapades, loneliness and the special relationship with his brother Tom.
