It returns to Oropher's youth in Doriath, to a time before he was nothing more than a young lord in Thingol's court. It explores the love between he and his wife, the birth of his legendary son "Thranduil" their escape from Doriath, and the eventual coming to Greenwood. Inspired by the ending of the movie The Battle of the Five Armies, this short story tells what happens after Legolas set off to find a mysterious man named Strider in the North. When the elf joins in a Yuletide celebration with a company of Rangers, he may just find something of his own that "is real." This story is a fun little one-shot in which I try to align Peter Jackson's movieverse to true book canon from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbbit.

When Eda meets Gandalf, he tells her that being reluctant to kill - valuing life - is not a weakness. And seeing Eda's true colors beneath her tough and careless facade, he hires her to protect his favorite Hobbit as Bilbo takes an unexpected holiday.
