The dragon story, "Weathermaker," is from Vonnie Winslow Crist's award-winning fantasy story collection, "The Greener Forest." May finds an old book hidden by her grandfather and decides to summon a dragon to help with a drought. But she gets more than she bargained for went she offers the creature some yogurt and cheese sticks.

"Gifts in the Dark" is a Day of the Dead tale set in the far future. It's the fifth story in Vonnie Winslow Crist's 2014 collection of science fiction, fantasy, and ghost stories, "Owl Light."
