Oropher could do nothing to save her, but Ercassiel being so young couldn't stand it she wanted to help, but only took a sword to the back and discovered another reason why her mother didnt want her to get involved in a war between blood. Only to find out her second oldest brother became ill and died after her and her mother left for middle earth with her father as well which left the oldest brother to ascend to the throne. She stayed in Mirkwood never wanting to leave for her and Thranduil became best friends and watched each others back. She even stayed by him when he married. The queen so violently turned on him and their child Legolas leaving Thranduil wifeless and Legolas motherless, but Thranduil knew his son was not truly motherless for Ercassiel was there for him she always would be and Legolas was closer with her than he was his own mother.
