A single act of vengeance: Meng Fu jumped into his car and, in a moment of rage, struck and killed Gu Ze's wife and child. In return, Gu Ze vowed to make him pay.
"Meng Fu, you might as well kill yourself."
"Mr. Gu, no-"
"Then you'll endure every torment I can devise."
Later, lying naked on his bed, Meng Fu finally understood what Gu Ze meant by "torment." As the searing pain of betrayal and loss closed in on him, he could scarcely breathe.
"Mr. Gu, please... I was wrong." His voice was ragged, trembling on the edge of despair.
"Meng Fu," Gu Ze whispered, "I just want to see you suffer. If you suffer enough, I'll feel a little bit happier."
In that moment, Meng Fu took a razor to his wrist. As his blood pooled across the sheets, he drifted into a haze of agony-only then did Gu Ze's own heart ache with regret. Yet he could not let Meng Fu know.
"Meng Fu," Gu Ze thought, his voice crushed by guilt, "do you have any idea... I've fallen in love with you in secret?"
