House Cousland was one of the first houses to leave Valyria before The Doom. Unlike the other houses who had dragons House Cousland had griffins. Lord Andrew I Cousland was the first one of Valyrian blood to set foot in Westeros, taking up rich and fertile land overlooking were Castle Black would stand. It took 15 years to complete the castle and the village that was nestled near it, this place was called Highever. The cliffs that overlooked Castle Black was also home to The Griffin's Roost, a huge tower that housed all the Griffins of House Cousland.
