When everyone is born, a protector is assigned to each human. The protectors are made to keep their subjects out of harms way and to follow their prophecy. Justin, Leah Ultra-Violet Smith's protector, breaks every rule he once followed. He meets Leah to try and steer her away from death because he has fallen in love with her; they become friends and Leah soon falls for him, too, clueless as to who he really is and why he is on Earth.
