Lizzy’s wake is the story of a family a very dysfunctional family, but aren’t all families dysfunctional. Lizzy Flynn left Ireland in back in the 1940’s she was pregnant, and unwed that wasn’t going to go over well in her Irish Catholic family. Rather than wait for her family to ship her off to a convent she took matters into her own hands. She went to the father of her child and demanded money, and she got it. She took her settlement from her child’s father, and fled to America, She settled in Pittsburgh PA. She didn’t waste any time investing in a local bar with her hush money from her married man back in Ireland. The world was not ready for the likes of Lizzy Flynn because she lived life on her terms. She wanted the child, but not the man. She always told Kat her granddaughter that she named the bar Lizzy’s Wake because it would be the death of her. It wasn’t it took off and soon became everyone’s favorite haunt because there was always something going on Lizzy was a born performer, and it wasn’t unusual to see Lizzy sitting on top on a piano singing along big belly and all. She made a life for herself far away from her family. She was a smart, funny, woman who was the beginning of the legacy of crazy, loud beautiful Irish women behind the bar Lizzy’s Wake.
