Shen Wei has recovered from the loss of his partner after a car crash, but he is confined to a wheelchair, which hasn't stopped him from doing what he likes most. He has a new office and receives reports from Chu or Lin Jing about suspicious incidents which haven't broken the law. However, when a new owner takes over the jeweller's shop, it raises concerns for everyone, because the previous one was a crook. Zhao Yunlan makes a bold entrance with a new career, which lands him in danger a few times. Their relationship has its highs and lows, marked by some memorable adventures in their lives. The characters belong to the Author Priest, who wrote the book, which was adapted to the series called Guardian. The photos are from the TV series.

Shen Wei's son is now eighteen and rebels against his father. The seeds of doubt were planted when Yezun visited him as a spirit, but now it has driven a wedge between father and son. There is the question about whether Yezun is alive or dead, but even if he is gone, he has left a legacy behind which causes pain for Yunlan and Shen Wei which cannot be solved until Wei faces the source of the problem. They discover some of his plan when they find ordinary glass crystals which can be used to kill through hypnotism and fate guides their way to correct wrongs.

Zhao Yunlan is a fire chief and after attending two incidents, he finds a mobile phone with the same person's image on the screen and contacts the SID. But after the third fire his circumstances change. Meanwhile, there have been a couple of burglaries close to the mansion which was the next target, but the house allowed the intruder to enter and trapped him, forcing him to seek refuge in the basement until he could escape. The next morning when Ava finds the sick burglar, he refuses to talk to anyone. The story follows the lives of everyone before and after the potential host refused the offer from the most powerful person living in this world.

Shen Wei had lost his memory not so long ago and was trying to reclaim some of his academic knowledge by attending college in a different city where he wouldn't be recognised as a professor, but he gave up after he found out about some kidnapped students. Zhao Yunlan is a detective and at Wei's side most of the time. They face a new enemy who is different from anything they've seen before. Meanwhile, the Black Robe Spirit takes another step forward emotionally. He's not the same strict person he was when he first came to this world after the war ended and promises to help free some some victims connected to Shen Wei's nightmares.

Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei's lives are anything but dull. Wei's premonitions have returned but he's hiding the fact from Yunlan, until he becomes ill one morning and they are shocked when they find out that someone is responsible. As usual they take the long road to find the culprit and are put into several different dangerous situations. Guo Ying meets an old friend and a new guard joins the others. More secrets are revealed but there is an important change coming into their lives which will affect them all in one way or another.

This is mainly about Wei's difficult journey to heal after his emotional injuries from his last struggle with a psycho maniac. He has a touch taboo and won't allow anyone near him, along with random memories which bring fear and terror back into his life. Yunlan is his friend first, and his psychologist second, and he helps him to overcome his fears, but it takes time and patience. Wei is kidnapped from his own garden after he starts to look into the fake black robe who is trying to help people and Yunlan has to ask an old friend for help to rescue him. Mac was his tutor at university when he studied psychology. This story has adventure and lots of emotion, but is mostly about about relationships.

Shen Wei is a professor at the university and has had small harmless premonitions all his life. But within the last two months, he has seen gruesome murders and doesn't want to report them to the police because they will assume that he is involved. Chief Zhao Yunlan does exactly that, he treats Wei as a suspect until it's proven he's not, but the killer doesn't stop. He has his own twisted reason why he's sending the images to Shen Wei's mind deliberately. The story follows the chase and watches their relationship become more involved while their lives are put at risk.

(bk14) They are two halves of the same coin, magnets drawn to each other when they are apart. Zhao Yunlan is an unwanted detective in his department and finds a warm welcome in another where he learns that life is more complicated than he could ever imagine. Shen Wei is on holiday but not the kind everyone else would consider and is shot by accident or not, he doesn't know, but he calls out for help and his other half answers even though they have not met. An old enemy returns, an old character also returns, and an old face leaves to start a new job. The main characters are taken from the TV series Guardian and adapted to suit the stories. The series was adapted from the book by Priest, who is a wonderful writer. Without her we wouldn't be able to enjoy following her brilliant characters. The title refers to Zhao Yunlan who survived a crash that was meant to kill him when he was eight, and also to Shen Wei who continues to live on. In this book Wei has recovered from the death of his last partner who still comes to talk to him sometimes in spirit to guide him. But Wei now works for the police as a profiler which has stopped him from being a medium, he doesn't have the same time and is usually exhausted after work. He can still see and talk to spirits but chooses not to. Several magazine stories appear about Black Robe with too many details, including all about Chu's strings and Daqing being a cat, but the author uses a pen name making it difficult for anyone to find out who he is. Eventually he is found, and shocks everyone when they learn that it is Zhao Yunlan. He wrote the stories when he was eight years old. BOOK 12. Shen Wei is a medium who helps people with their grief and relays messages from loved ones. After one of his meetings he is arrested as a fraud when a woman is robbed of her savings and he spends the night in a cell. He is released the next morning when his lawyer comes to collect him. From then on, he learns about his destiny but he has kept his health problems a secret which could change everything. Zhao Yunlan doesn't believe in anything that he can't see or touch and it drives a wedge between him and the one he cares for while he learns about Wei's illness.
