It had been around 75 or so years since TPOT had started in the BFDI world. The TPOT contestants had barely aged in that time. But you know what does age? Electronics. They age fast. What might have been a piece of cutting-edge technology would have been completely broken, deteriorated and obsolete several years into the future.
